My sister recently designed a dress for Hendricks to wear in a photo shoot, and we were so happy to hear that she is a size 8 (such a treat after looking at Hollywood size zeros for so long). So I feel that she has the power to singlehandedly bring buxom back into fashion (Note to Christina: Please promise us that you'll never go on the Rachel Zoe diet)!
If you were to look up "va va voom" in the dictionary . . . there's Joan. As a curvy girl myself, every time she saunters into frame, I want to shout "hallelujah"! Immediately after my first watch of the show, I high-tailed it to eBay, in search of pencil skirts, sexy secretary dresses, spiky kitten heels, and gold Mariam Haskell jewels. I'm also working on my bouffant . . . I find her to be that visually inspirational. Here are some pics (click to view full size):
It should also be mentioned that the set and costume designers do a flawless job recreating 1960 (and i'm one tough cookie when it comes to noticing details that are not true to the period). It is obvious to me that they are taking much inspiration from the 1959 film The Best of Everything (based on the bestselling book of the same name), which was further evidenced in an early Mad Men episode, where Don is seen reading his wife's copy in bed.
